1850 on an August day in a field at Cross Gate in Ilminster, a father and his ten robust healthy grown sons reaped a wheat field. Townfolk came to watch and bell peals were rung, a joyous occasion, reapers in carnation adorned straw hats. Newpapers refered to it as a remarkable incident in Ilminster.
